MEET THE ATHLETE: Monique M!
MEET THE ATHLETE!
NAME Monique McLoughlin
AGE 33 | COMP CATEGORY Fitness Model
Were you nervous getting on stage? How did you handle it?
Yes, but took those deep breaths and reminded myself to have fun!
What were you most surprised about in the world of competition (something you didn’t expect)?
All the competitors are lovely. Each person has their own personal story/reasons for getting up on stage. I originally thought that it would be very ‘catty’ and ‘bitchy’ but it’s not at all.
“All the competitors are lovely. Each person has their own personal story/reasons for getting up on stage. I originally thought that it would be very ‘catty’ and ‘bitchy’ but it’s not at all. “
Is there anything you would do differently next time you prep for a competition?
Not let the self-doubt get in the way and take over. There were days where it was endless. Next time round I’m going to kick those awful head games to the curb!
Best thing about working with a coach / team?
The unlimited support and encouragement.
Biggest thing you learnt about yourself through your journey to stage?
That I am a dedicated, focused and organized person. If the mind is willing the body will follow. I can do anything!
Advice for newbies starting a prep?
Be guided by the process. Trust Zoe and her team unreservedly. The results will follow.
How tough did you find prepping for a competition?
Tough times ebbed and flowed. I think the toughest times were when I experienced what I call “the mummy guilts”. Leaving my children to train, go to group posing sessions, travel and compete.
“Being healthy is a choice you make for life. It is being mindful about the foods we eat and making sure that we give our bodies the best nutrients possible. Make small changes and don’t be scared to start! Seek professional help.”
Is it important for competitors to have a coach?
Yes! They keep you accountable and provide unwavering support and guidance.
Why did you choose Vosky Bodies?
I chose Vosky Bodies because I liked their philosophy of approaching competition prep as being clean, natural, and healthy as possible. Also I knew that they were able to program everything to my individualized needs.
What are you most proud of (in life, not just competition!)
My family. I have the most supportive husband and encouraging children. They are my number one fans.
“My biggest inspiration outside the industry is my 92 year old Grandmother. She is still active (goes swimming every day) and lives independently. Her attitude towards life and family is astoundingly awesome.”
Your best trait?
My best trait would be my focus and determination. When I want to get something done and achieve a goal I get started on it straight away.
What did you find the most challenging post-competition? Did you experience post-comp blues? How did you handle it?
Yes. It was difficult to accept that my body was changing post-comp and that the sculpted effect or comp body was no longer around. Although I was still maintaining a very healthy diet I had to come to terms that life had to go on after comp and be happy in my body.
Who are your idols?
Bear Grills- Love the survival of the fittest philosophy.
Deepak Chopra- Meaningful living and love.
Who is your biggest inspiration outside of the fitness world?
My 92 year old Grandmother. She is still active (goes swimming every day) and lives independently. Her attitude towards life and family is astoundingly awesome.
Favourite motivational quote/s?
“No amount of guilt can change the past and no amount of anxiety can change the future”. Meaning be focused on the present and be mindful of the now.
“Be patient and tough. Someday this pain will be useful to you”
Favorite body part/muscle group to train?
I have started to really like the development I have in my back and shoulders.
Your top workout songs
Do it like a dude – Jessie J
Fight Song – Rachel Platten
Brave – Sara Bareillis

You provided me with everything that I was looking for – A clean, healthy, natural and most of all fun approach to competition prep. You gave me guidance, support and most of all you educated me – Giving me the ‘know how’ and ability to change.
On my bad days… You did not intimidate, criticize or reprimand… but rather provided a sense of positive accountability and honesty.
Not once did I feel like I was on my own in this journey or that I was set up to fail.
Thank you for helping me achieve my goals.
Any thank-yous or shout-outs?
The biggest thank you I could give is to my husband Adam. For his ever enduring faith in me and for support and encouragement he provided me throughout the whole process.
